Academic Language Week 2 - Cars

I would want to have a car that drives itself, don’t you? I mean there are so many good things that can come out of a car that knows what its doing. One reason is that there are people who are handicap. Some people don’t have any arms or they don’t have any legs so they struggle. So a car driving itself can help for that. Another reason is that there will be less reports and deaths on drunk driving. Know that you have a car that drives itself you won’t have to worry about people driving drunk. Therefore having a car that drives itself makes it better for everyone.

Academic Language Week 24 - Online Learning

Online learning is not an effective way of learning. One reason is that people learn at there own pace. For example, people are slow learners and other like to work ahead. If your teachers going to fast for you to understand then how are you going to learn anything. Its the same with people who like to speed up ahead. Another example is that people could have a condition where they suffer from being blind. How do expect someone to CLARIFY things online if they have a serious condition. Lastly, the DIFFERENTIATION with working off line outweighs working online.

Academic Language Week 22 - Felons Voting

Felons should not able to vote. Why, because when you commit a crime you should lose that privilege. Also, they could vote bad laws or bad people come to our government. Some people believe that some people’s criminal history isn’t RELEVANT to their right to vote. Those people who believe in like the constitution as a SOURCE, for felons, the “right” to vote is relative and it’s something that can be lost. There are good arguments on both sides of this COMPLEX issue. In my opinion, the safety of our well being outweighs everything else. Therefore felons should not be allowed to vote.

Poetry Previous Knowledge Paragraph

My experience with poetry has always been something I always wanted to learn how to write. I had a friend who would always write poetry and she would always read it to me. I always thought that it was something very beautiful. I never really got the whole point of poetry because to me it was some words put together. I’ve tried to write poetry but it never really worked out for me. I guess it just has to come naturally. Basically, this year I hope to learn more about poetry because I really don’t get the style of writing.

Academic Language Week 21 - Steroids

People who play sports should not be allowed to take steroids. One reason is that there are many side effects for people who take them. Taking steroids is also, really bad for your health. For example, when you’re on them for a long PERIOD of time you might get a heart attack, become bald, or have mood swings. I don’t think you want that. Another reason is that for some people it’s a TRADITION, so they encourage it because it’s a PRIMARY for them to be stronger. So, as a result I think that people should never ever be allowed to take steroids.

econd Semester 2012 Goals

My goal for the second semester of this year is to get at least above a 2.0. I chose this because last semester I didn’t really care much, but now I know that by not doing anything that’s going to get me no where. The first thing that I have to do is my homework and I have to make sure that I turn it in on time. Plus, now that we have planners my staff can help me to get on track and they will know that I have homework. Another reason is that if I get good grades that means that I could be off two hour, and im 16 so that means I could get self passes. At the end of the semester, I will know I achieved my goal because at the end of the grading period I will have A’s B’s and some C’s.

Being Brand New
It was about a year and a half ago when I first met Emilia.  Out of all the three years that I've been here I've never gotten along with houseparents, not once. It’s mostly because I'm not used to having someone love and care so much for me, but then Emilia and her husband Jorge came along. She was very pale, short, and had pretty auburn wavy hair. She seemed anxious but the again working with a bunch of girls can be nerve racking.
It was going to be my fifteenth birthday, and Emilia asked “so what do you want to do for your birthday?” As soon as she said that, I didn't know what to say. I wasn’t  expecting her to do anything for me, actually I wasn't expecting anyone do something. Most of all I was excited because first it was my birthday and second I wasn’t a little girl anymore, I was mature now. Then came January 9, 2010 and right after school I went home, then later had dinner with my housemates. Afterwards, I was happy that she was so concerned .
It was about two or three months ago when it all started.  I woke up in the morning in a grouchy mood. Then later i went to school and that’s where my bad day began. People kept telling me things that I really didn't want to hear, and we really annoying.  . Later, I went to my class and my teacher said that i was getting on her nerves and for no reason kicked me out of class, great.  Afterwards, problems and problems kept coming up. It seemed like I was supposed to get in trouble all day. After school was over i went home and talked to Emilia about it. It was strange at first because don't talk to anyone about things like this, but for some reason she was there to listen.
A few week ago the house and I were extremely bored and had nothing to do. So,  we went to Blockbuster. Emilia was kind enough to take us in the dark all the way up the windy rode to Ramona. I hate going up that way because the street is really narrow. Its’ like your asking to get in a car crash. Either way we got there and instead of renting the movies she bought them for us. I was so happy because she not only did she took us, she actually paid with her own money.
After a few years of her working in my house, I have come to realize that she has gone out of her way to help me.  Emilia at first was just a staff that is only there to look out for us, but at the end of the day I know hoe much she cares. Finally, someone can  understand me.
